If you are looking for some amazing trekking and camping sites to explore, read on. Chandrashila trek is about as close as you can get to the Himalayas without actually having to step foot in them. This trek is only feasible from November to March due to the snowfall and generally happens during the monsoon season.

It means it will be cooler and more comfortable for the tour. The route takes about 10 days with around 4-5 campsites.

The route starts from Jollygrant, on the Alaknanda (a tributary of the Ganges). The route is through the dense forests and passes through places like Neelkanth peak and crosses over to Tosh. This is where you cross the Goriganga river and then walk through thickly planted trees on your way to Satdhara. From here, you can get a vivid picture  of Mt. Trishul (Lord Shiva’s trident) which is 7050m high.

Things You Will Require Before Going For The Trek Are: 

  • Keep yourself well-prepared for rain with extra clothes during this season.
  • Wear full fledged waterproof clothes and a cap because you may get wet due to sweat when taking a rest or climbing down and up the hill.

Chandrashila Trek – Chopta and Tungnath in Uttarakhand

Chandrashila Trek is one of the most well-known and popular treks in Uttarakhand. Located in Chamoli District, it offers a spectacular view of the Garhwal Himalayas including Nanda Devi Peak. It is India’s second highest mountain peak. It starts from Ukhimath and ends at Chopta which is just half an hour drive from Joshimath.

You will have to pass through lush forests teeming with deodar, oak and rhododendron trees. In the initial part of the trek, you will have to climb through dense forests for 2-3 hours before reaching Garur village (1,524 m); a small settlement in Chamoli District of Uttarakhand. It is a good idea to have enough food and water in your backpack before beginning the trek. The trail offers some breathtaking views of the Himalayan range which only makes the experience better.

Start from Delhi

Haridwar

  • Start your journey by boarding an evening traveler/Sedan car/ from Delhi.
  • Enjoy your night journey in the bus

Arrival at Chopta

  • Rise-up to the mountain morning, and get to enjoy a delicious meal amidst nature
  • Then head to Rishikesh by early morning and move to chopta
  • Enjoy near the campsite of chopta with the amazing view of nature.
  • Have dinner and do overnight stay in chopta

  • After an early morning breakfast at Chopta, get ready for the next destination
  • Start the 6 KM long trek, where you will get to know some interesting facts from the locals
  • You will then reach Tungnath, which is 3680 m above the sea level. You can mediate when you reach the highest Shiva Temple in the world
  • Trek a few more and reach the highest destination of this trek – Chandrashila Peak
  • Enjoy the 180-degree view of higher Himalayan peaks such as Nanda Devi, Bandarpunch, Chaukhamba, and Kedar Peak

  • Overnight stay at Chopta. 

Trek to Deoria-Tal Lake and Return Journey

Haridwar

  • After an early morning delicious breakfast at Chopta, get ready for the next destination, i.e. Sari village
  • But from Sari, the journey becomes more adventurous as you go towards Deoria Tal.  It is situated at an altitude of 2438 m
  • Immerse yourself in the thrilling experience as you continue a 2 KM uphill trek
  • During the trek, get ready to admire an air-plane view of the villages around, the fragrance of nature, which is a real treat away from the busy city life

  • This is the end of the lovely trek and then you can go back towards Delhi

The route goes through the Valley of Flowers that is known for its floral flora and orchids.


  • 2. What to do there: Other than exploring the magnificence and pristine beauty of Nature, spending time with locals is another major part of this trek. They engage in harvesting fruits and vegetables from their backyard gardens as you are taken around in a group by a monk. This can also be the ideal time for you to pray and make offerings to appease the deities. Along with this, you can also engage in learning about the local traditional dances at Kedarnath. Your trip can be given a religious touch by visiting some of the temples that lie nearby.


  • 3. Accommodation: After the trek, you can spend some time at Gaurikund which lies close to your destination and is a perfect base camp of sorts when you are ready to explore further.
