The trekking trail through this area is not for the weak-hearted.  It has traverses areas that are laden with human history and natural beauty. From thick green forests to breathtaking mountain ranges.

Things to Look Out For: 

Agasthyarkoodam trekking is best done from mid May to mid June as this is the best time to trek through this area. This trek has several ascents and descents, thus putting in extra effort will be rewarded. In case of an unexpected delay or heavy rain, you can hire a local guide to help you complete the trek. 

Trekkers must carry water for the entire journey and must carry extra food for that day’s work. The best time to go is 10 am to 3 pm before the hot afternoon sun starts to dominate the day. You can request for a vehicle at Manjarabad and take it up to Kallar. 

Agasthyarkoodam trekking is divided into two parts: Thalapadi and Kasaragod. This is the 8th schedule destination that comes under “Aphorism” category of Kerala’s tourism department web site. The trekking trail is an outcome of the efforts taken by Thekkadi Forest Department in association with the TTOU (Trekking Trails Of Kerala) department of Kerala Tourism.

Where is Agasthyakoodam?

Agaadithyaakoodam is a mountain peak in the Western Ghats in Kerala, India. The word Agaadithyaakoodam means ‘the peak with agatha flowers.’ Agatha flowers are wild jasmine flowers.

The summit was considered sacred to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is considered one of the 108 Divya Desams. The mountain is located close to Aryankavu Peak which has a helipad for reaching it easily. Trekking Season From January 14 to February 26

Agasthyarkoodam is the second highest peak in the Western Ghats, at 825 m. It’s a 40-km long trek from Kazhancherry taluk, Kerala to the top of Agastyarkoodam. The view from up there is breathtaking and one of the best among all peaks traversed by trekkers in South India.

The first 18 km are through dense forest and often marshy ground with a no visible path at times. In some places, the trekkers will have to climb over huge boulders. There are lots of leeches in the upper sections too. 

The average time taken to get to the peak is 2 days and 1 night. At the peak, trekkers will have to climb up a steep rock face to reach the top. There is a steel rod stuck into the rock, which provides some assistance in this tricky climb. The view from up there is breathtaking and one of the best among all peaks traversed by trekkers in South India. 

The trekking season begins from January 14 to February 26. The admission is for a maximum of 100 people in a  day. The ticket price is Rs 1331 per person. The Agasthyarkoodam trekking 2022 online booking is restricted to 75 persons.
